This page describes the process of nominating an article for deletion. If you wish to merge the article content into another article, see template:mergeto. Also use the {{mergeto}} template to propose redirecting the article to another.

Nomination[]

Please create a new section at category talk:Candidates for deletion for any page you tag with the {{delete}} template, stating your rationale for deletion. Any page that is tagged but does not have a section created here should have the {{delete}} template removed.

Discussion[]

To discuss a page's nomination for deletion, in its section, please indicate whether you agree or disagree with the stated rationale, and give your thoughts. Begin your statement with an asterisk (*) followed by Keep, Delete, or another appropriate action (see bwlow) in bold, with your thoughts following. Note that the purpose of discussions is to reach a consensus; these discussions are not a simple vote. Statements without a reason following "Keep" or "Delete" may be disregarded if the nomination is contentious.

As with any talk page discussion, be sure to sign your post with four tildes (~~~~). This includes the nominator's rationale.

End of debate[]

The discussion for each page should be closed after fourteen (14) days; only administrators may close deletion discussions. When closed, the closing administrator should add the following text:

The result of the debate was delete/keep/no consensus. ~~~~

If the consensus reached was that the article should be deleted, the closing administrator should close as "delete" and promptly delete the article. The closing admin should select "marked for deletion" from the list of deletion reasons. If consensus was to keep, the discussion should be closed as keep, and the {{delete}} template should be immediately removed. Articles kept through a deletion discussion may not be re-nominated for a minimum of one year. If a consensus was not reached, the debate should be closed as "no consensus", and the {{delete}} template should be immediately removed. Articles whose debate is closed as "no consensus" may be re-nominated after three months.

Note that discussions need not consist strictly of keep/delete opinions. Users may also add a comment by beginning their text with Comment in bold; similarly, users may suggest a Merge, Redirect, etc. Similarly, closing administrators should close as "Redirect to...", "Merge to...", etc. if that is the consensus of the discussion.
